In grosser Trauer müssen wir den Tod von Eberhard W. Kornfeld, des Patrons und Namens- gebers unserer Firma, mitteilen. Nach einem reichen und erfüllten Leben ist er in seinem 100. Lebensjahr am Morgen des 13. April 2023 friedlich zu Hause eingeschlafen. Ebi Kornfeld begann 1945 als Volontär zu arbeiten und hat die Firma seit 1951 geformt und geleitet; bis zuletzt war er aktiv im Geschäft. Wir vermissen schon jetzt sein untrügliches Auge für Qualität und seine unvergleichliche Kennerschaft. Während 65 Jahren war er als Auktionator aktiv, hat über 200 Auktionskataloge herausgegeben und verantwortet sowie über 180 Ausstellungen in der Galerie veranstaltet. Mit der Publikation der heute gültigen Werkverzeichnisse der Graphik unter anderem von Max Beckmann, Marc Chagall, Paul Gauguin, Alberto Giacometti, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee und Pablo Picasso hat er neue Standards gesetzt. Mit ihm hat einer der Grossen der Kunstwelt des 20./21. Jahrhunderts für immer die Welt verlassen. Wir werden unsere Arbeit in seinem Sinn und Geist fortsetzen. C‘est avec une grande tristesse que nous devons annoncer le décès de monsieur Eberhard W. Kornfeld. Après une vie riche et accomplie, il s‘est endormi paisiblement chez lui dans sa centième année, le matin du 13 avril 2023. Directeur de la société éponyme, Ebi Kornfeld a commencé à travailler comme volontaire en 1945. Il a façonné puis dirigé dès 1951 l‘entreprise dans laquelle il a été impliqué jusqu’à la fin. Son incomparable connaissance et son œil infaillible nous manquent déjà. Pendant 65 ans, il a été actif en tant que commissaire-priseur, a publié, assumé la responsabilité de plus de 200 catalogues de ventes aux enchères et a organisé plus de 180 expositions dans la galerie. Il a établi de nouveaux standards avec la publication de catalogues raisonnés d‘œuvres graphiques aujourd‘hui en vigueur: Max Beckmann, Marc Chagall, Paul Gauguin, Alberto Giacometti, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee et Pablo Picasso. Son décès est une triste nouvelle pour le monde de l’Art. Son génie et son esprit resteront parmi nous et nous aidera dans notre travail. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of EberhardW. Kornfeld, the patron and namesake of our company. After a rich and fulfilling life, he died peacefully in his sleep at home on the morning of 13 April 2023, in his 100th year. Ebi Kornfeld started working here as a volunteer in 1945 and led the company from 1951. He was active in the business until his death. We already miss his unerring eye for quality and his incomparable connoisseurship. For 65 years he presided over auctions, edited more than 200 auction catalogues, and organized more than 180 exhibitions in the gallery.
