Artist's copy outside the edition for the publication "L'élégie des alizés", Éditions du Seuil, 1969, in which this subject was used as a frontispiece. Mourlot/Sorlier point out that Chagall used this bird, the "Sacred Ibis", for the first and last time in this series of prints.
