Commentaires

The Bay of Somme, an impressive natural jewel, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful bays in northern France and has always been a source of inspiration for artists and writers. Alfred Manessier, who was born nearby, began painting here. After the war, he returned to the region in 1947 and created a series of works related to the bay and the small fishing harbour of Le Crotoy. The present painting is probably a variant of the similar composition "Soir d'été dans la Baie de Somme", dated 1947.

Erläuterungen

Die Somme-Bucht, ein beeindruckendes Naturjuwel, gilt für viele als eine der schönsten Buchten Nordfrankreichs und ist seit jeher Inspirationsquelle für Künstler und Schriftsteller. Alfred Manessier, ganz in der Nähe geboren, fing hier an zu malen. Nach dem Krieg kehrte er 1947 zurück in die Region und schuf eine Reihe von Werken, die mit der Bucht und dem kleinen Fischerhafen Le Crotoy in Verbindung stehen. Das vorliegende Gemälde dürfte eine Variante der ähnlichen, 1947 datierten Komposition "Soir d’été dans la Baie de Somme" sein.
