Condition

99 sheets in very good condition, sheets 100 and 101 with a light brown stain, sheet 102 with heavy brown stain and mounted. Leaf 103 missing

Comments

The set contains 102 views of Venice, according to the title page the edition of 1768 by Giuseppe Wagner using the privilege of 1703 and certainly including numerous prints from earlier editions, as the watermarks "Tre Lune" and other early watermarks prove. All prints in this edition are in the II state with the numbers, but before the III state with the publisher's address on each sheet. Conclusion: New title page by the publisher Wagner, but views largely taken from earlier editions and thus printed much earlier than 1768.
Luca Carlevarijs is generally regarded as the founder of Venetian views in the 18th century. He was the teacher of Antonio Canale and paved the way for the great successes of Canaletto, Marieschi, Guardi, Bellotto and others.

99 Blätter in sehr gutem Erhaltungszustand, Blätter 100 und 101 leichter Braunfleck, Blatt 102 starker Braunfleck und aufgezogen. Blatt 103 fehlt

Erläuterungen

Die Folge enthält 102 Ansichten von Venedig, laut Titelblatt die Ausgabe von 1768 von Giuseppe Wagner unter Verwendung des Privilegs von 1703 und sicherlich unter Einbeziehung zahlreicher Drucke aus früheren Ausgaben, wie die Wasserzeichen "Tre Lune" und andere frühe Wasserzeichen belegen. Sämtliche Blätter in dieser Ausgabe liegen im II. Zustand mit den Nummern vor, aber vor dem III. Zustand mit der Verlegeradresse auf jedem Blatt. Fazit: Neue Titelseite des Verlegers Wagner, aber Ansichten weitgehend aus früheren Ausgaben übernommen und damit viel früher als 1768 gedruckt.
Luca Carlevarijs gilt allgemein als der Begründer der venezianischen Ansichten des 18. Jahrhunderts. Er war der Lehrer von Antonio Canale und Wegbereiter der grossen Erfolge von Canaletto, Marieschi, Guardi, Bellotto und anderen.
