Comments

The plaster was not cast during his lifetime. The bronzes were not created until 1980

The sculpture comes from the estate of Alberto Giacometti's widow, Annette Giacometti, who died in 1993, and was sold at a special auction of Giacometti's sculptures in Paris in 2002.

Giacometti did not renounce realistic representation altogether, but he moved towards abstraction with this present work. The interwoven elements of the sculpture "Composition (dite cubiste II)" show his strong interest in a spatial realisation and the attempt to shape the sculpture in a cubist manner

Die Skulptur stammt aus dem Nachlass der 1993 verstorbenen Witwe Alberto Giacomettis, Annette Giacometti, und wurde an einer Spezial-Auktion von Giacomettis Skulpturen in Paris im Jahre 2002 versteigert

Giacometti schwor der realistischen Darstellung nicht gänzlich ab, doch er gelangte mit diesem vorliegenden Werk zur Abstraktion. Die ineinander verwobenen Elemente der Skulptur "Composition (dite cubiste II)" zeigen sein starkes Interesse an einer räumlichen Umsetzung und den Versuch die Plastik in kubistischer Weise zu gestalten
