Comments

The sitter is Bruno Giacometti (1907-2012), the artist's youngest son. Because of his interest in music, his parents allowed him to take violin lessons. Bruno posed for his father in several paintings with his violin (e.g. Müller/Radlach 1919.01, 1922.01, 1923.08, 1927.01 and 1927.02) as well as for prints (Stauffer 53 and 58). The present work is probably the first in this series of works and shows the eleven-year-old boy at the beginning of his violin lessons.

Erläuterungen

Beim Dargestellten handelt es sich um Bruno Giacometti (1907-2012), den jüngsten Sohn des Künstlers. Aufgrund seines Interesses für Musik ermöglichten ihm seine Eltern Geigenunterricht zu nehmen. Für seinen Vater stand Bruno für verschiedene Gemälde mit seiner Violine Modell(z. B. Müller/Radlach 1919.01, 1922.01, 1923.08, 1927.01 und 1927.02) sowie für Graphikblätter (Stauffer 53 und 58). Die vorliegende Arbeit ist wohl die erste in dieser Reihe von Werken und zeigt den elfjährigen Knaben am Anfang seines Geigenunterrichts
