Comments

The simple, almost two-coloured study, rotated 180 degrees, was painted during the Second World War when Fernand Léger was living as a refugee in New York. Like the large-format painting of the same name, the study belongs to a series of works that are probably reflections on the transition from easel painting to monumental painting or wall decoration

Erläuterungen

Die schlichte, fast zweifarbige, um 180 Grad gedrehte Studie wurde während des Zweiten Weltkriegs gemalt, als Fernand Léger als Flüchtling in New York lebte. Wie auch das gleichnamige grossformatige Gemälde gehört die Studie zu einer Reihe von Werken, bei denen es sich wohl um Reflexionen über den Übergang von der Staffeleimalerei zur Monumentalmalerei oder Wanddekoration handelt
