Coll. Karl Eduard von Liphart, 1808-1891, Dorpat/Bonn/Florence. In the auction catalog of his collection at C.G. Boerner in Leipzig of December 5, 1876 and following days under cat. No. 408, there with "Specimens of the beauty of the present are of the greatest rarity". In this catalog description, attention is drawn for the first time to the condition before the gap in the barkt, with a small drawing in the text. Sold in 1876 for 2'000 Goldmark

Splendid impression of the extremely rare II. state before the gap in the bark under the left arm of Adam, in brilliant black and white contrast, with completely visible border line and narrow paper margin around it. On light beige laid paper with the full watermark "Ochsenkopf mit Dreieck und Blume", Meder Wz. 63, as desired for the earliest prints of this sheet. Perfect condition, with minimal hanging fold. In this splendid print quality before the bark gap of extreme rarity. The light skin of Eve very effectively contrasting with the darker skin of Adam

Of the I. state with the reversed engraved "5" in the year "1504" there is only the unique copy in Schweinfurt. In trade, the II state is the earliest available"

The first of the large main sheets of engraved work, created in 1504, and thus almost 10 years earlier than "Ritter, Tod und Teufel" of 1513 and "Hieronymus im Gehäuse" and "Melancholie", both of 1514

Nr. 408 verzeichnet, dort mit "Exemplare von der Schönheit des vorliegenden sind von grösster Seltenheit". In dieser Katalogbeschreibung wird erstmals auf den Zustand vor dem Rindenspalt aufmerksam gemacht, mit einer kleinen Zeichnung. Zuschlag 1876 für 2'000 Goldmark

Prachtvoller Druck des höchst seltenen II. Zustandes vor dem Rindenspalt unter dem linken Arm des Adam, in brillantem Schwarz-Weiss Kontrast, mit komplett sichtbarer Einfassungslinie und schmalem Papierrändchen darum herum. Auf leicht beigem Bütten mit dem vollen Wasserzeichen "Ochsenkopf mit Dreieck und Blume", Meder Wz. 63, wie für die frühesten Drucke dieses Blattes gewünscht. Einwandfrei in der Erhaltung, mit minimaler Hängefalte. In dieser prachtvollen Druckqualität vor dem Rindenspalt von extremer Seltenheit. Die helle Haut der Eva sehr wirkungsvoll kontrastierend zur dunkleren Haut Adams
